Industrial agriculture has taken such a great step forward, that it may be impossible to reverse the trend that we see now. This could be a problem because the soil that is used for industrial farming may not be fertile after many years of crops. but industrial farming cannot be ruled out as all bad. Some good things do come because of industrial farming. For example, it provides jobs for people who grew up on small family farms, people who don't want to move on from life on a farm. It also proveds food for millions of people. Just think about how hard it would be if everyone on the planet had their own farm. There would be a lot less space, and probably a lot more people. (The farm needs someone to work on it, so couples have lots of children to help out.) It is so easy today, to just walk down the street to the grocery store and pick up a bag of potatoes. Think about it, do you have the skills today to maintain a garden to feed your entire family? And your grandparents once they are too old to farm for themselves? Industrial farms are a good way to produce food for a community. Only certain people need to be trained to have the skills to be able to produce mass amounts of any certain crop. Also, because of industrial farming we are able to consume foods that are not grown in our area. For example, oranges and bananas do not grow in Erie, PA. These fruits need to be shipped up from warmer climates to be sold in dreery, wet places such as Erie. To conclude this post, I must say that industrial farming is a good way to provide food. The negatives that come with industrial farming are easily outweighed by all the positives that also come along side it. Industrial farming is a trend that will only continue to grow, so what is the point in an attempt to reverse it?

  1. You mentioned that farmland may become infertile but you are mistake. Farmers have faced this problem before. They have come up with a plan that they farm a certain type of crop for two or three years and then they grow crops that fertile the soil by adding nitrogen to it. Also I disagree with the thought that farmers have many kids to help them on the farm. Fairview is a fairly rural township and I don't see many families that have over 5 children (your family, my dad's family, and my neighbor's family are exceptions). Living on a farm is not a reason to have many children.I agree that industrial famring gives many jobs and that not many people around the world need to be trained to work on a farm.

  2. The bog family thought came from way back in the day when people had lots of kids, as did the thought about the infertile soil.
